Ipostaze identitare în romanul Andreas Búr Majster de Jozef Cíger Hronský (Identity Phases in the Novel Andreas Búr Majster by Jozef Cíger Hronský), p. 7-17

Abstract. The main focus of the following article is to emphasize the influence of the author’s life on his first novel written after having emigrated. As it is already known, artistic creation derives from our surroundings and it is altered by the creator according to his subjective view and judgement. The main character of the novel, namely Andreas Búr Majster, is struggling to find his place in a world where almost everybody perceives him as a “stranger” or, even worse, as a curse betiding the village, an “enemy”. The Slovak author, Jozef Cíger Hronský, felt like a stranger himself, because he was forced to move away from Slovakia to Argentina after being accused of his nationalist political views. He chose to express his feelings and describe this part of his life through his literary creation and his characters, using his life experiences as inspiration throughout his writing career. Thus, this novel is a very representative autobiographical writing. From having to deal with and adapt to a completely new and different society to trying to feel as he is a part of it, the author and, implicitly, our main character struggle with the image that others project on him, being seen as a lunatic, un unwelcomed stranger, as someone who should remain isolated from his own people, because he is different. This writing will also expose the stages through which Andreas has to go in order to obtain the approval and acceptance of others. His individuality and way of being make him peculiar for the village he lives in and, as a consequence, society considers him to be the “enemy”. Whatever is not in the “norm” is usually hardly accepted or even tolerated. I chose this subject as the main theme of my article to prove that the place where we live in and the people who surround us have a great influence on our life and our development. According to the tenable arguments stated in the following paper, the writer’s life experiences are mirrored in this particular novel, hence Andreas represents an alter-ego of the author.

Problematica identitară a unui narcoman în Romanul cocainei de Mihail Agheev (Identity Issue of a Narcomaniac in Novel with Cocaine by Mihail Agheev), p. 19-27

Abstract. Novel with cocaine follows the experiences of a drug addict, Vladimir Maslennikov. The main character is a troubled student who obsessively examines his life under the magnifying glass of extreme lucidity. Vladimir Maslennikov descends into the underground of his conscience to understand the failure of his existence and uses cocaine to create a new deviant personality. This alter-ego is based on pathological behavior and used as a coping mechanism towards reality’s endeavors to undertake his true ego. The purpose of this study is to identify what happens within the identity matrix in the case of drug addiction and how the character’s identity changes under the influence of narcotics.

Viziunea moralizatoare în Povestirile populare ale lui Lev Tolstoi (The Moral Vision in the Folk Tales of Leo Tolstoy), p. 29-37

Abstract. Leo Tolstoy is a didactic writer who frequently highlights in his works the deviation from the moral norm and the consequences that come with it. Between the years 1881-1886 he writes a couple of short stories that bring to the reader’s attention moral values that Tolstoy believes to be embedded in the society of the 19th century. In these stories, a cause-and-effect relationship is often observed (for every action there is a reaction, a moral consequence). Moreover, each story brings forth the idea of mercy and grace given to people who are unworthy of them. The present work aims to highlight the features of tolstoyism in the popular stories of the writer.

Răul necesar în obținerea actului justițiar în nuvela Vii de N. V. Gogol (The Necessary Evil in Obtaining Justice in the Short Story Viy by Nikolai Gogol), p. 39-49

Abstract. The purpose of this article is to analyze the conflict between evil and good in N.V. Gogol’s short story Viy. Contrary to the traditional vision according to which the good promoted by faith and religion must come out victorious every time, in Gogol’s work we have the opportunity to observe how evil takes the place of good, becoming a necessary tool in seeing justice done. The analysis of the fictional universe and its representative symbols relied on mythological approaches. Thus, the actions of the protagonist Khoma Brut are analyzed from several perspectives, focusing on the crime he commits, thus disturbing the universal balance. Even if Viy appears only at the end of the work, he has the role of restoring the universal order disrupted by the crime. The subconscious can be explored by analyzing the actions committed by an individual in relation to environment and knowledge.

Discursuri celebre la dezvelirea monumentului lui A. S. Pușkin, în 1880. O analiză retorică (Famous Speeches at the Unveiling Ceremony of the A. S. Pushkin Monument. a Rhetorical Analysis), p. 51-61

Abstract. The current paper is based on the rhetorical analysis of two famous speeches delivered at the unveiling ceremony of the A. S. Pushkin monument in Moscow on June 6th, 1880. I chose to analyze the speeches delivered by Ivan Turgenev and Fyodor Dostoevsky, because there is an important difference between them that deserves to be highlighted. On the one hand, Turgenev delivered a contemporary speech, which places Pushkin in the center of universal literature, while Dostoevsky went for a traditional approach, placing the poet in the center of Russian literature: he insisted on the fact that he was not just a great writer, but a Russian writer. In this paper I made a rhetorical analysis of the two speeches and I discussed them from a lexical, morphological, syntactic, stylistic and pragmatic point of view.

Particularități și aspecte ale traducerii filmului Apărătorul galactic în limba română (Particularities and Aspects of the Translation of the Film Goalkeeper of the Galaxy Into Romanian), p. 63-74

Abstract. This paper is a linguistic analysis on five linguistic levels, accompanied by a brief introduction into the world of visual effects and the “art of subtitling”. The main reason for choosing this theme is that 2021 was celebrated as the Year of the Cosmos in Russia, being the 60th anniversary of the first man (Yuri Gagarin) in space. However, my main motivation for tackling this topic was the fact that the only Romanian subtitles available online for this film contain many mistakes and inconsistencies. The aim of my paper is to demonstrate that subtitling is a very complex branch of translation, deserving of exploration.

Cuvinte-realia rusești în presa românească: note și idei (Russian Realia in Romanian Media: Notes and Ideas), p. 75-87

Abstract. This research paper studies the concept of realia words, one of the essential elements in Translation Studies. Cultural-specific terms require to be translated accurately from one language into another in order to preserve and convey the information they carry. One can observe an increasing number of Russian realia words in Romanian media since the Romanian Revolution, which are used to depict the Russian Federation, its culture and people. This is a relevant topic because the media is influential – it impacts the way in which the audience perceives an issue. The aim of the paper is to analyze the frequency of the Russian realia words in Romanian media, their connotations and whether they are correctly translated or not.
